“Acrylic Poor”
2022Acrylic Pour installation
The installation titled Acrylic Poor is a conceptual adaptation of the traditional acrylic pour technique. Typically admired for its aesthetic beauty and often likened to galaxy-like patterns, the acrylic pour is generally associated with visual appeal. This project sought to subvert that expectation. It began with a conventional pour, only for the surface to be disrupted—objects were thrown, and additional paint was spilled with the intention of breaking the visual harmony. Drawing inspiration from the Dada movement, the process continued by tilting the surface while the paint was still wet, allowing it to spill naturally onto surrounding materials such as fabric and plastic. These spontaneous results were preserved and presented as they were, embracing chance and rejecting conventional standards of beauty. In true Dada spirit, there was no refinement—what occurred in the moment was accepted and displayed, challenging traditional notions of artistic control and aesthetic value.
